What Next?: The Future of Burma

17 May 2011

What does the future hold for Burma?
What are the next moves for Aung San Suu Kyi and her followers?
Will freedom and democracy ever be within reach?
And what can and should the rest of the world do?

Festival chair Polly Toynbee hosts a passionate discussion examining the challenges facing Burma.

Mark Farmaner is Director of Burma Campaign UK. He has visited Burma on numerous occasions and spoken worldwide on its plight. Journalist, novelist and Independent foreign correspondent Peter Popham has just written a new biography of Aung San Suu Kyi - The Lady and the Peacock. An award-winning foreign correspondent for BBC World Affairs, Sue Lloyd-Roberts has reported undercover from Burma and across the region. Zoya Phan is a Burmese author and spokesperson for the Burma Campaign. Her remarkable personal story is told in a separate event on 20 May. Robert Gordon was Ambassador to Burma, 1995 - 1999.
