Urgent Action: Invitation for demonstration against forced relocation and arbitrary arrest in Kachin
On 28th May, Mazup Mare village, which has approximately 63 households near the Myitsone dam site in Kachin State, was forcibly relocated by the Burmese military. Three more villages are also in the process of forced relocation. Despite local people voicing their clear opposition to the dam projects and relocations, the forced relocations are continuing.
Recently, more than 60 Kachin youths who are members of the Education and Economy Development for Youth (EEDY), the youth wing of the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) which has steadfastly refused to accept the junta-proposed Border Guard Force, have been arrested, interrogated, and tortured by police and military intelligence.
The Kachin community in UK will be demanding that the military junta stop forced relocations, stop the arrests and release all the innocent Kachin Youths immediately and unconditionally.
Date: 07 June 2010 (Monday)
Time: 12:00 - 13:00
Venue: In front of the Burmese Embassy 19A Charles Street London W1J 5DX
