Freedom Gala Screening: Burma VJ

11 Sep 2009

Prince Charles Cinema
Genre: Docudrama
Rating: 15

In 2007, foreign news crews were banned, the Internet was shut down, and Burma was closed to the outside world. Yet overnight, it became headline news across the globe. Thanks to the Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB), a tenacious band of Burmese reporters faced down torture, life in jail and even death to expose the repressive regime controlling their country.  Armed with small handycams the Burma VJs stop at nothing to make their reportages. The whole world has witnessed some of their single event clips, but for the very first time, their individual images have been carefully put together and at once, they tell a much bigger story.

Post-screening discussion with Deborah Burton (Tipping point Film Fund) and Nang Seng, Campaigns Officer at Burma Campaign UK.

Date: Friday 11 September
Time: Doors open 6:00pm,  Film starts 6:30pm
Venue: Prince Charles Cinema, 7 Leicester Place London, WC2H 7BY
