Moving to Mars: A Million Miles from Burma, dir Mat Whitecross, 2009
Two families take a remarkable journey in this documentary by Mat Whitecross (co-director of The Road to Guantanamo), which follows a group of Burmese refugees travelling from temporary camps in Thailand to their new home in Sheffield. Thaw Htoo, a civil engineer, becomes the focus of the film as he attempts to settle his family and friends and get a foothold in a new society. Everyday life becomes something extraordinary when seen through the eyes of these newcomers.
There will be a Q&A with Director Mat Whitecross at the opening screening on Friday 22 January.
