Members of the All-Party Parliamentary Group For Democracy in Burma will be
holding a meeting in the British Parliament today to pay tribute to Aung San
Suu Kyi. Hlaing Sein, Campaigns Officer at Burma Campaign UK, will give a
presentation on the life and work of Aung San Suu Kyi. Following the
presentation Mark Farmaner, Director of the Burma Campaign UK, will give an
update on the current situation in Burma.

At 3pm a delegation of Burmese women will hand in a petition to 10 Downing
St, home of the Prime Minister. 6,500 people have signed the petition, which
calls for the British government to do more to secure the release of
political prisoners in Burma, including Aung San Suu Kyi.

Aung San Suu Kyi will spend her 63rd birthday in detention on Thursday 19th
June. She is allowed no visitors, her phone line cut and her post
intercepted. On this day she will have spent a total of 12 years 239 days in
detention.

“We are making sure that the world does not forget our leader, Aung San Suu
Kyi”, said Hlaing Sein, Campaigns Officer at Burma Campaign UK. “The
international community must do more to secure the release of Aung San Suu
Kyi and all political prisoners. They cannot be allowed to continue defying
the United Nations.”
