Timber firm D.A Watts & Sons to stop selling Burma teak
The Burma Campaign UK today warmly welcomed a decision by D.A. Watts & Sons to stop purchasing teak from Burma. It follows announcements in recent days by Timbmet and K J Howells and Son that they will also no longer purchase teak from Burma. Timber exports are a major source of revenue for the regime.
The companies all featured on a Dirty List of companies directly or indirectly funding the regime in Burma. http://www.burmacampaign.org.uk/index.php/burma/dirty-and-clean-list/dirty-list/contact-details
We call on other companies to follow their lead, and end their involvement in funding the regime in Burma, said Mark Farmaner, Acting Director of the Burma Campaign UK.
D.A. Watts & Sons purchased their timber from Timbmet, which has now found alternative sources of teak of equal quality. D.A Watts & Sons have been removed from the Dirty List.
