Global Day Of Action For Cyclone Victims – Saturday 17th May

16 May 2008

Campaigners across the world will join forces tomorrow to demand the world does more to aid cyclone victims in Burma. More than 30 events will take place worldwide, including in UK, USA, France, Spain, Hong Kong, Thailand, Chile, Australia, Canada, Belgium and Czech Republic.

In the UK protests will be focussed on the American, French and British governments, demanding that they act unilaterally to deliver aid.

Protests will be held outside the French Embassy, the American Embassy and the Foreign office.

French Embassy: Time: 12:30 - 13:00, Address: 58 Knightsbridge London SW1X 7JT

American Embassy: Time: 13:30 - 14:00 Address: 24 Grosvenor Square, London, W1A 2LQ

Foreign Office: 14:40 - 1510 Address: King Charles Street London SW1A 2AH

“The regime in Burma is still blocking the aid needed to save lives,” said Mark Farmaner, Director of the Burma Campaign UK. “The USA, France and UK have navy ships in the region that could be saving lives now. The regime will never give permission for them to go in. The choice is stark. Go in now without permission and deliver aid unilaterally, or let thousands more die.”
