The Dirty List

Burma is a country ruled by one of the longest running and most brutal military dictatorships in the world; a dictatorship charged by the United Nations with a “crime against humanity” for its systematic abuses of human rights, and condemned internationally for refusing to transfer power to the legally elected Government of the country – the party led by Nobel Peace Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.

In response to calls from Burma’s democracy movement, the Burma Campaign UK and other campaign groups around the world have been pressuring companies to sever business ties with Burma.

DHL - IN BUSINESS WITH BURMA'S GENERALS

TAKE ACTION - SEND A CAMPAIGN EMAIL TODAY

Parcel delivery company DHL are in a business partnership with Burma's brutal military dictatorship. DHL's Burma subsidiary is co-owned by Myanmar Posts and Telecoms. Myanmar Posts and Telecoms is a ministry of the regime. They have cut Aung San Suu Kyi's phone line and intercept mail to democracy activists. Set up in 1997, the joint venture is believed to have earned the regime millions of dollars. In 1998 the regime expelled all other parcel companies from Burma in order to maximise revenues from its joint venture with DHL.

TELL DHL TO END ITS JOINT VENTURE WITH THE DICTATORSHIP

The Burma Campaign UK is campaigning for DHL to stop funding the regime and end its joint venture. DHL don't have to have the regime as their business partner. They operated in Burma for many years without being in a joint venture.

DHL are a subsidiary of German postal giant Deutsche Post. As Deutsche Post have the final say over decisions about DHL, we are asking you to email the Chairman, Dr Klaus Zumwinkel, and the Director of Communications Prof. Manfred Harnischfeger.

    Dear Deutsche Post

I am a supporter of the Burma Campaign UK and was shocked to learn from them that your subsidiary, DHL, is in a joint business venture with Burma's brutal military dictatorship. By working so closely with the dictatorship you are funding a regime that imprisons and tortures political opponents, has been condemned by the United Nations for its widespread use of forced labour, and that uses rape as a weapon of war in its persecution of ethnic minorities.

In addition your business partner, Myanmar Posts and Telecoms, regularly censors and intercepts mail of democracy activists, and has cut the phone line of Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, barring her from contact with the outside world.

I urge you to end your business partnership with Burma's military dictatorship.

I look forward to your response.

    Yours sincerely
